adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen adoption process Yankee can stay forever in his foster home! His story: Yankee has settled well in his foster home. He is a huge power package, friendly, and full of energy. Originally, he came from Romania. Here, he was found half-starved and matted. Yankee is now ready for a new life and is waiting for you! He loves to play with other dogs and sometimes lets his stubborn side out. Yankee is a happy-go-lucky dog, a Kasperkopf, who expresses his love for his people very passionately at times. He is now around 1.5 years old and has a shoulder height of 70 cm and weighs 40 kg – one should be quite sturdy. His fur care presents a challenge, so he was shorn upon arrival. Daily brushing is now recommended to prevent his growing long fur from knotting again. Yankee is a Mioritic-mixed breed, bringing herding skills that will certainly show themselves when he settles into his new home. It would be great if his new owners have an enclosed yard or a garden. He is not suitable for an apartment in the city. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require consistency and empathy from their owners and the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent-minded dog. But they bring wonderful qualities. People who already have experience with herding dogs don't want any other breeds anymore, as despite their big heads, they are very loyal and faithful companions. Yankee is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, neutered, and has an EU pet passport. He is only available after a positive application. Where are the herding dog lovers for Yankee? Many thanks say we to Frank R.! You have taken on a monthly sponsorship for Yankee and are accompanying him on his journey! Date: 12.03.

Stand: 12.03.2022

About Yankee

What life with Yankee looks like

Yankee is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yankee, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yankee?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yankee on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yankee if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yankee already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yankee isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yankee and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
