Ymir

Belgian Malinois · Female · Puppy

Ymir - active, smart female dog is looking for an experienced home Ymir is a real little power package in the best sense. She brings incredible joy, energy and personality and is looking for people who know how to appreciate that. She is an active, clever female dog with a very, very strong desire for movement. She needs not only physical exertion, but above all, a lot of mental work and meaningful occupation to be really happy and balanced. She needs clear structures and consistent, loving guidance. If you give her that, she shows herself to be eager to learn and orientates well towards humans. Without clear limits, however, she likes to test her possibilities and "dances on your nose" sometimes. Leash training works already well if you work with her calmly and fairly. In general, a good mix of patience, clarity and loving strictness is required. She also has a slight hunting instinct, which should continue to be worked on. In daily life, Ymir shows that she still needs to work on her calmness. She tends to get excited and needs people who can bring her down in time and give her security. In such situations, it can happen that she "snaps" - but this is manageable if you read her correctly and guide her. Ymir generally gets along well with other dogs and is strongly oriented towards them. It is important that existing dogs are confident and clear in their communication, as Ymir tends to test boundaries when they are not clearly set. At dog encounters on a leash, Ymir is currently still insecure, reacting by moving forward and barking persistently - here she needs confident leadership and further training to gain confidence. Cats definitely are not among her friends, so a home with cats is not an option. Children, if any, should be at least teenagers. Ymir easily masters car rides and sleeps through the night reliably. A crate gives her additional security and helps her to relax. Being alone is still difficult for her. It is better with other dogs, although she may whine at first. Ymir cannot be left alone at the moment and still needs practice here. For Ymir we are looking for a breed-experienced, consistent and loving home, where people are ready to work with her, give her security and exercise her both physically and mentally. People who are looking for an active dog with character will find a great companion in Ymir. About Ymir

What life with Ymir looks like

Ymir is a puppy/kitten belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ymir, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ymir?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ymir on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ymir if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ymir already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ymir isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ymir and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
