Spice

Belgian Malinois · Female · Young · 1 year

Spice is a roughly 10-month-old female Malinois dog who, along with other animals, was taken in from a mixed household at the animal shelter Ludwigshafen e.V. Upon arrival, she was in a clearly neglected condition. She suffered from a severe flea infestation, had little muscle mass, and had overly long claws. Spice currently shows herself to be very shy with us and understandably impressed by all the new impressions. The changes of the past few days, the unfamiliar environment, and the numerous new stimuli still present her with challenges. Therefore, we are giving her the time she needs to build trust and adapt. At the moment, she is particularly oriented towards another female Husky dog housed here, to which she visibly finds comfort. For this reason, we can envision Spice well as a second dog – ideally with a confident and socially secure dog who can provide her with orientation and security in everyday life. In her previous home, she lived together with cats and rabbits. Whether a future cohabitation with these animal species is possible, we cannot yet conclusively assess. Since Spice has only been with us for a short time, we cannot currently make any further statements about her character, her behavior in the household environment, or her compatibility with others. Further information will be added as we get to know her better. For Spice, we are looking for people who enjoy showing the world to a young female Malinois dog and who can accompany her on her journey with patience, understanding, and clear guidance. Potential owners should be aware that we are dealing with an active and intelligent working dog breed that requires both physical and mental exertion. Further information will follow in the coming weeks.

About Spice

What life with Spice looks like

Spice is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spice, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spice?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spice on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spice if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Spice already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spice isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spice and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
