Adopt Yoda

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 6 years

"Yoda" originally came from outdoors and had little contact with people in its previous life. When he arrived at our shelter, he had to be treated for persistent bacteria in his urine for an extended period. Fortunately, he has recovered well from this illness and has been free of symptoms for some time now. "Yoda" is a sensitive but also very curious tomcat. Despite his initial reserve, he does not hide but instead attentively observes his surroundings and is often seen exploring the space. He is also very curious about strangers. Once he builds trust, he becomes very cuddly: with familiar people, he clearly enjoys cuddles and actively seeks them. Especially during playtime, he really comes alive, as this is one of his absolute favorite activities. Additionally, "Yoda" is very food-oriented, making it easy to win his trust through shared feeding times. He gets along exceptionally well with other cats. He actively seeks their company, likes to lie down with them, and always behaves carefully and considerately. Therefore, we would like to find him a home with compatible fellow animals. Children should not live in his new home, as "Yoda" is too sensitive and a lively daily life would quickly become too much for him. Since he is familiar with and appreciates outdoor life, he will only be rehomed to a quiet and traffic-free neighborhood where he can enjoy a proper outdoor run after an appropriate adjustment period. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Yoda

What life with Yoda looks like

Yoda is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yoda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yoda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yoda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yoda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yoda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yoda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yoda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
