Yukon

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

comes the super friendly and sweet Yukon and finally wants his own little bed with loving people... Yukon is one of those dogs you only need to look at once to sense how much heart they carry. A beautiful, large male German Shepherd of about 65 cm, open, friendly and full of joie de vivre – despite everything he has had to endure so far. As soon as someone enters his kennel, Yukon lights up. He is overjoyed by every bit of attention, every touch, every kind word. Especially for such cooperative, people-oriented dogs as German Shepherds, the monotonous shelter life is torture. They want to work, learn, and bond – and instead they sit behind bars day after day, waiting for someone to see them. Yukon reacts accordingly with great enthusiasm when visitors finally arrive. You can feel immediately how much he longs for contact, how much he wants to please, and how much potential he has within him. It breaks your heart that such a wonderful, affectionate dog must spend his best years in a kennel, when he has everything it takes to be a wonderful companion. Now Yukon is setting out to find his people. People who recognize his friendliness, love his energy, and show him how beautiful a dog's life can be once he finally belongs. Yukon is friendly, open, eager to learn, and ready to give his heart away. He needs people who give him structure, support his development, and show him the world beyond the shelter. People who understand that a dog like him needs not only exercise but also bonding. For Yukon we urgently seek a loving foster home, which can be a wonderful stepping stone into a new life, or a loving family that would like to give him a warm place filled with lots of love. Take a look at him – isn't he great? Perhaps Yukon is waiting for exactly you! Yukon will be vaccinated and microchipped after a positive preliminary check and placed by the animal welfare association Vierbeiner in Not e.V. General note regarding our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog may behave differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs even open up more quickly at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations but are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide orientation and show how the dog presents itself in the shelter – and what potential lies within him. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find his way and develop positively.

About Yukon

What life with Yukon looks like

Yukon is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yukon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yukon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yukon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yukon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Yukon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yukon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yukon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
