Żanka

Female · Adult · 5 years

Żanka is a female dog of exquisite beauty and an unforgettable character - she is an outstanding canine personality, which each person who spends some more time with her will realize. She has an acting talent - she can dramatically sigh, pretend to be poor and/or very hungry, and additionally shows great cleverness by opening any door with her nose and quickly learning the most useful skills in dog life from her canine friends. She secretly dreams of jumping into your bed and lying there as long as possible! But... there will be no jumping. Żanka has had significant mobility issues from the beginning - her life has been a series of sufferings since a very young age, because an X-ray revealed signs of past, untreated injuries of both hind legs. Although Żaneczka underwent several operations in a year, including a tarsal arthrodesis, which minimized the pain and significantly increased her comfort, she will probably never be a fully mobile dog. Despite this, the female dog enjoys life, is calm, cheerful and gives the impression of having no limitations at all. In a home environment, Żanka keeps herself clean and nicely signals when she needs to get some fresh air. She gets along well with the other dog residents, and at the animal shelter she loved to play with her canine companion Batate. Żaneczka-grzaneczka is definitely a master of resting - most of the day she spends lying on her left or right side, on the carpet or in the garden on the terrace - unless it's raining. On rainy days she can dramatically look into your eyes as if she wants to say "Seriously? I have to get my fur wet?" With strangers, the female dog keeps her distance, wags her tail in greeting at the sight of familiar faces, and allows close familiarity with friends - petting, licking, showing her belly and nibbling behind the ear are reserved for a small circle of trusted people, which does not mean that you cannot join this circle - just call us ;) Żanka doesn't really understand the idea of walking on a leash - she never learned it, probably because she never had a real home in her life. And after such a serious accident she suffered, there was no question of any movement, let alone walking on a leash due to chronic pain. Therefore, she is looking for a home with access to a garden and a caregiver who finds pleasure in being with dogs, not necessarily on walks. Żanka absolutely needs to live in a house where there is already a dog or a female dog. Żaneczka is an amazing personality and we promise that her future caregiver will never be bored with her! If you already have some experience in taking care of a dog, have a garden and would like such a beautiful female dog to lie on your terrace, then we invite you! Żanka to sunia o przepięknej urodzie i niepowtarzalnym charakterze - to wybitna psia osobowość, o czym przekona się każdy, kto spędzi z nią nieco więcej czasu. About Żanka

What life with Żanka looks like

Żanka is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Mobility issues due to old untreated injuries to both hind legs. Had arthrodesis surgery on ankle joint. Cannot walk on leash and has limited mobility. Requires garden access and cannot do regular walks.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Żanka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Żanka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Żanka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Żanka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Żanka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Żanka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Żanka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
