Adopt Zeus

Belgian Malinois · Male · Senior · 12 years

Zeus came to the animal shelter at the age of seven when his family, in which he had lived since puppyhood, was forced to sell their home and property. For a male dog accustomed to human life, this marked the end of a world, and he struggles to cope with the situation. Therefore, he continues to live separately and apart from the dog area. Zeus has a good basic obedience and loves going for rides in the car. The male dog is a confident and intelligent hound who forms strong bonds and is loyal and clingy to his family. He excels breed-wise with a high work ethic and has a pronounced "will-to-please." When faced with strangers, Zeus is defensive and will intervene actively if he perceives them as a threat to his primary caregiver. He is not compatible with other dogs, especially on walks. The new owner must be able to lead and hold Zeus on walks. The male dog closely observes what is happening in his immediate surroundings and reacts immediately and without warning. Over the years, he has become a bit more laid-back and is content with regular walks rather than more strenuous activities. However, his watchfulness has not diminished. We are looking for a single person with dog experience who can read and lead a Malinois for Zeus.

About Zeus

What life with Zeus looks like

Zeus is a large senior belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierheim Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires single-dog household, needs experienced Malinois handler, housed separately due to behavioral issues, defensive with strangers

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zeus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zeus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wiesbaden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zeus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zeus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wiesbaden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zeus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zeus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wiesbaden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zeus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
