Adopt Zora

Kangal · Female · Adult · 8 years

For a long time, she was officially secured. Now, Zora can finally move into a new, suitable home.Zora is a female Kangal dog and will be nine years old in October. She lives completely outdoors with us and feels very comfortable doing so. As a typical herding dog, she is attentive, vigilant, and territorial without being unnecessarily loud or frantic. She reliably alerts when necessary but otherwise remains calm and relaxed. People who know her meet her with a laid-back and friendly demeanor. Even strangers are allowed to enter her enclosure/property and are openly accepted by her—she enjoys cuddles very much. Although Zora currently lives mostly outdoors and enjoys it, she is familiar with indoor life and is house-trained. In handling, Zora generally shows a people-oriented and loving nature. She seeks the proximity of her trusted people, often laying her head on them and enjoying quiet moments together. At the same time, she also brings the typical independence of her breed with her and is happy to be independent when walking. Zora sets clear boundaries, especially in situations where she feels pressured or restrained. She currently finds visits to the vet or caretaking measures like brushing unpleasant. In such situations, she shows clear defensive behavior, snarling or snapping. Under strong pressure, she would also bite. However, through muzzling training, this can be managed very well, as she already knows how to wear a muzzle confidently. With patience, clear guidance, and positive reinforcement, she can certainly continue to build trust and learn to handle such situations more calmly. Zora is only conditionally compatible with fellow animals. She particularly dislikes small dogs, while her feelings towards larger ones are more positive. Therefore, we wish for her a home as a single dog where she can enjoy the undivided attention of her people. During walks, she should generally be led with a muzzle. For Zora, we are looking for experienced, confident people with understanding for herding dogs and their characteristics. An ideal home would be a quiet one with a securely fenced property where she can live with her people and still fulfill her watchful duties. She needs people who take her clear communication seriously, respect her boundaries, and at the same time give her security and orientation. Zora is an impressive, character-strong, and heart-warmingly good female dog who will be a faithful companion to the right person.

About Zora

What life with Zora looks like

Zora is a adult kangal dog waiting at BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
