Żuczek

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 9 months

Żuczek, this is just starting to live a proper life! He came to us on 24.12.2021, on Christmas Eve. A present like this, it's better not to talk about 😞 Guess when he went for his first walk? Attention: 9.01.2026! He lived 4 years without walks!!! How is that possible, you ask? Żuczek didn't have much in common with people, for a long time no one took care of him in the animal shelter. He didn't know the concept of a leash, going out for walks, the relationship with a person was that someone was moving around him and giving him treats. And that's how he lived for years... In the summer of 2025 I started taking care of him and his shy companion from the kennel - Psotka, who incidentally found a home a few days ago ♥️ After many struggles, difficult moments, times of doubt and hard work - we managed to go out for the first walk, then another and another... How is he now? Żuczek gladly goes for walks, explores a lot, it's clear that it brings him great joy. Less fear, more courage. More trust. But. We are still far from the ideal, even from a normal existence, I would say. Żuczek still doesn't want contact with people, my presence is associated with a super event: walking and "swallowing this bitter pill" of putting on the leash. It's going quite smoothly for us. He takes treats from my hand, and that's it. He definitely treats my presence at the other end of the leash better. He no longer carefully observes me as he did at the beginning, there is more relaxation. Unfortunately, there are situations when he panics, situations that are normal for any other dog. And then Żuczek forgets everything. Every mechanism in his head sounds an alarm and informs of a terrible threat - where nothing bad is happening. Żuczek is not an easy dog, he is almost a difficult case. I'm advertising him because I know there are people in the world who have a mission, who want to save someone's life, give a chance, even if another wouldn't. Actually, I'm counting on a miracle. If you feel you could try this mission - call me, let's talk! Maybe Żuczek won't be destined to spend his life in the animal shelter 💔 Żuczek is a medium-sized dog, about 9 years old, neutered. volunteer Kasia, please send an SMS, I will call back)

Daleko nam do ideału, nawet do takiej normalnej egzystencji bym powiedziała. Idzie nam to całkiem sprawnie. Bierze smakołyki z ręki, i to tyle. I wtedy Żuczek zapomina o wszystkim.

About Żuczek

What life with Żuczek looks like

Żuczek is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Żuczek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Żuczek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Żuczek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Żuczek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Żuczek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Żuczek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Żuczek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
