Adopt Zuko

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Senior · 14 years

Zuko is super friendly with everyone he meets and gets really playful, especially with his toys. Don't count him out just because of his age as he still has lots of life in him, and tons of love to give. He does have a little heart murmur but don't let this put you off. Everything is very much under control and our Vet will discuss things in more detail. He's fine around other dogs out and about but he doesn't want to share with any other pets. However, he could be adopted as a pair with his kennel buddy Barney, a 13yr old Beagle, if are looking for two lovely golden oldies! If you live a quiet life and are looking for a wonderful, playful and loving companion to while away the days with then add Zuko to your favourites now. Zuko is a handsome 14yr old Jack Russell Terrier who is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. This adorable gent been through a lot but remained really playful and affectionate. Being that bit older, he will suit a less active, peaceful home where he can relax. Kids will be a bit too noisy and unpredictable for his twilight years so he's looking for an adult only home.

About Zuko

What life with Zuko looks like

Zuko is a senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Leeds in Leeds.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zuko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zuko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Leeds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zuko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zuko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Leeds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zuko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zuko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Leeds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zuko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
