Adopt Żurek

Male · Adult · 7 years

Żurek is six years old, about seven kilograms, and has a look that slightly deceives - although he is a small dog, he stands on high, thin legs, as if someone accidentally stretched them by size. The first days at Paluchu he spent fighting with kennel cough, so today he proudly presents his winter jacket. Finally: whoever gluces, wears Gucci. He is a dog who loves the human at the entrance. He offers cuddles as a standard package, and during walks discreetly approaches everyone, as if checking whether his people have come to take him away. He often looks back at cars - maybe he remembers that once he had a direction and a purpose. He was found with a collar, but without a chip and without a caregiver who would come back for him. For now, long walks are not his world. He prefers to sit down, sniff the air and make sure the area is friendly. Żurek is slightly underweight and has a lot to gain - not only of body, but also of confidence. Dogs pass by calmly or with mild excitement. However, if someone barks at him, he can respond, because in this small body clearly sits a little warrior. And what kind of home are we looking for for Żurek? One that will appreciate his soft heart and will not pressure the pace. Someone who will let him catch his breath, recover and calmly reorganize the world anew. In return, he will give a loyal, sensitive, and genuinely grateful dog for every day on the good side of life. Żurek is waiting - small, fragile, but with character. Perfect for slow, full of new stimuli walks, cuddling and giving him what he apparently seeks since the moment he walked through the gate: warmth in the arms of his human.

Read original (pl)

About Żurek

What life with Żurek looks like

Żurek is a small adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Underweight, recovering from kennel cough, needs patient rehabilitation and weight gain

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Żurek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Żurek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Żurek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Żurek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Żurek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Żurek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Żurek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
