Zwiebel &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 9 years

My name is Zwiebel. I am female, neutered, and born around 2015. I have been waiting since November 2017 for a new home. My caretakers say about me: Zwiebel is a found animal, knows people but is cautious and suspicious. Zwiebel shows herself more quiet in the adoption room and stays in the background. Occasionally she drops by, she knows people, one can also pet her, but only if Zwiebel also wants to. We think with the help of treats, it will go better and she will gain trust. Zwiebel can be rehomed with compatible fellow animals, children in the household should treat her understandingly, otherwise she will be a good teacher. It would be nice if she could be rehomed as a second cat, she enjoys the company of fellow animals. Zwiebel, however, does not necessarily need a free run, she is suitable for apartment living, if one allows her enough time to adjust. We are convinced, in the new home, she will gain trust with some practice and training, as well as the corresponding treats, if one has the patience to let Zwiebel come to you. She also shows from time to time here that she likes cuddles, as she is not pressured. For her adjustment, one should bring a little patience, then the initially suspicious Zwiebel will come out of her shell faster and find the necessary security that is also required for cuddling… She seeks a quiet home, preferably with fellow animals, but free run is not necessarily required. Similarly, if possible, she would enjoy free run, but she would also be content with apartment living. Experience in dealing with shy cats is advantageous for serious interest. Who gives the suspicious and initially reserved Zwiebel the chance to finally come out of her shell and gain trust?

About Zwiebel &#8211

What life with Zwiebel &#8211 looks like

Zwiebel &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zwiebel &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zwiebel &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zwiebel &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zwiebel &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zwiebel &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zwiebel &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zwiebel &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
