En junio de 2025, nos alertaron sobre una colonia de más de 40 gatos salvajes que vivían en un camping—gatos que no solo estaban descuidados, sino que eran brutalmente maltratados por algunos de los residentes. Se decía que los cachorros habían sido golpeados con martillos. Los gatos adultos eran pateados y asustados. Es casi insoportable escribirlo, ni hablar de imaginarlo. No pudimos salvarlos a todos, pero sabíamos que teníamos que intentarlo. Con la ayuda de Flori’s Friends, se rescataron a 15 de estos almas olvidadas. Ocho fueron llevados directamente al veterinario, tratados, esterilizados, vacunados y transferidos a otras rescates. Y luego estaban los que habían sufrido lo peor. En el verdadero estilo de Flori’s, conservamos los casos más graves: los gatos que estaban demasiado traumatizados, demasiado rotos y demasiado asustados para simplemente ser trasladados. Estos no son gatos de rápida conversión. Son gatos que pueden tardar años en aprender que los humanos ya no significan dolor. Algunos nunca confiarán plenamente. Y eso está bien. No los apresuramos. Les permitimos quedarse juntos con los compañeros que aman. Tienen espacio, seguridad, comida constante, cuidado suave y el tiempo que nunca antes les fue dado. Nuestra esperanza es que, un día, puedan elegir confiar, pero si no es así, aún vivirán sus vidas protegidas y respetadas. Todos estos gatos son positivos para FIV y requieren suplementación diaria, así como dietas especializadas, ya que varios sufren de enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal. Here at Flori’s Friends Rescue, we specialise in the trapping, rehabilitation and transformation of feral cats, the very cats many other rescues feel have no option but to return outdoors. Whether rehabilitation takes four weeks, four years, or even if a cat never fully adjusts to domestic life, they will always have a place with us. We believe every life matters, and no cat should be forgotten simply because they are frightened of humans. So far, we have successfully rehabilitated more than 50 feral cats, helping them transform into domestic pets who are now living happily in their forever homes. Seeing these once terrified cats learn to trust, feel safe and enjoy the comforts of a home is one of the most rewarding parts of our work. We are a cage free rescue and all of our cats have access to two large outdoor, heated enclosures as well as indoors, all at their own choice. We are incredibly passionate about feral cats because they are quite literally some of the forgotten souls of our world. Thousands live across the UK, often enduring freezing winters, scorching summers, illness, injury and hunger, with little or no access to veterinary care.
