Stanley est un croisé de petite à moyenne taille, il a probablement environ neuf ans. Stanley est entré en notre garde il y a quatre ans provenant du refuge public de Botosani en Roumanie. Il avait été très maltraité dans le refuge et était très maigre à cause des autres chiens qui ne lui permettaient pas de manger. Au lieu d'être reconnaissant envers nous pour être intervenus et l'avoir sauvé d'une fin inévitable, on peut dire que Stanley n'a jamais vraiment été une "personne bien". Après des années de difficultés causées par les humains, nous ne pouvions pas vraiment le blâmer. Donc, nous avons continué pendant quatre ans à le nourrir, à ramasser ses déjections et à recevoir rien qu'avec des regards sales. Tout ce qui comptait était qu'il soit sorti du refuge et heureux et en sécurité dans sa famille d'accueil. Pendant tout son séjour chez nous, il n'a jamais vraiment été un problème. Il se fond généralement dans le fond. Il tolère que je le baigne et le toilette sans souci quand c'est nécessaire. Il n'a jamais vraiment montré le moindre signe d'envie d'une interaction plus approfondie. Récemment, j'ai ressenti un changement en lui, je dirais même qu'il a presque oublié lui-même hier et a apprécié un toilettage et une attention ! Quand il a posé sa tête sur mes genoux et s'est endormi, j'ai soudain réalisé qu'en fait, il est vraiment un chien âgé maintenant et qu'il mérite un environnement plus calme et plus détendu pour sa retraite. Évidemment, il a besoin d'une personne très spéciale pour lui offrir un foyer. Cela reste potentiellement une question de ce que vous pouvez faire pour lui et non de l'amour qu'il vous rendra. ... mais peut-être qu'avec un environnement plus individuel, il peut être plus qu'un chien qui se fond dans le fond. En attendant, les récompenses viendront du confort et de la paix offerts à un vieil homme stoïque qui veut juste vous utiliser pour la nourriture !! Stanley a besoin d'un autre chien résident et peut être joueur lorsqu'il pense que personne ne regarde, il n'a aucun problème avec les chats. Il a été en famille d'accueil avec des enfants de huit ans et plus, il les ignore et ils l'ignorent et cette situation convient à tous. Il fera des promenades et les appréciera initialement mais deviendra agressif après environ vingt minutes, surtout si vous choisissez une direction qui ne lui plaît pas. Je pense simplement que l'on peut voir dans les yeux de ce chien qu'il a vu et subi bien plus qu'un chien ne devrait, et il ne doit donc pas être jugé pour son attitude distante envers les humains. Lors des séances de toilettage, j'ai vu les cicatrices cachées par son pelage épais, et il y en a beaucoup. Stanley a été en famille d'accueil à Royston Herts. Les frais de don d'adoption à partir du 1er décembre 2025 sont : Chiots déjà stérilisés et tous les chiens adultes : 430 £. Chiots non stérilisés sur contrat de stérilisation : 530 £ (vous recevrez un remboursement de 100 £ une fois que vous nous enverrez la preuve de la stérilisation). Chiens âgés (10 ans et plus) : 150 à 250 £ (selon l'âge et les besoins individuels). Politique d'adoption Lorsque vous adoptez un chien de Safe Rescue, vous DEVEZ utiliser une laisse en slip. Cela gardera votre chien en sécurité : votre nouveau chien sera nerveux et ne vous fera pas confiance, et vous ne saurez pas quelles situations pourraient troubler votre chien. Si votre chien panique, alors une laisse en slip est le seul moyen d'empêcher votre chien d'échapper (beaucoup de chiens peuvent s'échapper d'un collier et/ou d'un harnais). Cela prendra AU MOINS 3-6 mois pour que votre chien s'habitue et que vous le connaissiez pleinement (plus longtemps pour les chiens anxieux). La laisse en slip doit TOUJOURS être utilisée durant cette période d'adaptation. Même après que votre chien soit habitué, il est plus sûr d'utiliser la laisse en slip dans les situations où votre chien pourrait avoir peur (par exemple, visiter de nouveaux endroits, autour de personnes inconnues, chez le vétérinaire), et dans les situations où des déclencheurs inattendus pourraient survenir (par exemple, autour de la nuit des feux d'artifice). Les chiens anxieux peuvent toujours porter une laisse en slip comme mesure de sécurité supplémentaire. La laisse en slip est un dispositif de sécurité et NE DOIT JAMAIS être utilisée comme outil d'entraînement. Utiliser la laisse pour exercer une pression sur le cou du chien est dommageable. Si votre chien tire sur la laisse, nous pouvons vous conseiller sur des méthodes d'entraînement qui évitent les dommages. Les lances étirables ne doivent jamais être utilisées pour nos chiens. Les chiens adoptés doivent être récupérés par le refuge et transportés directement à la maison dans une caisse. Les clôtures et portails doivent avoir une hauteur minimale de 1,5 mètre et être sécurisés. Tous les chiens sont vaccinés, identifiés par puce électronique et stérilisés (sauf si le chien est trop jeune pour être stérilisé). Stanley is a small to medium sized crossbreed, he is probably around nine years old. Stanley came into our care four years ago from the Botosani public shelter in Romania. He had been extremely picked on in the shelter and was very underweight due to other dogs not allowing him to eat. Far from being grateful to us for stepping in and saving him from impending doom, it’s fair to say that Stanley has never really been a “people person”. After years of hardship at the hands of humans we never really blamed him. So we’ve been ticking along for four years feeding him, picking up his pooh and receiving nothing in gratitude but dirty looks. All that mattered was that he was out of the shelter and happy and safe in his foster home. For the duration of his stay with us he’s really not been any trouble at all. He blends into the background for the most part. Will tolerate me bathing and grooming him without a fuss when needed. He’s just never really shown any sign of wanting any further interaction. Recently I have felt a change in him, I would even go as far as to say that he almost forgot himself yesterday and enjoyed a groom and a fuss! When he rested his head on my knee and dozed off I suddenly realised that actually he’s really a senior now and he deserves a quieter and more relaxed environment for his retirement. Obviously he needs a very special kind of person to offer him a home. It is still potentially going to be a case of what you can do for him and not what love he’s going to give back to you.….. but just maybe in a more one to one environment he can be more than a “blend into the background” dog. In the meantime rewards will be from offering comfort and peace to a stoic old boy who just wants to use you for food!! Stanley needs another dog in residence and can be playful when he thinks nobody is looking, he has no issues with cats. He has been in a foster home with children of eight plus, he ignores them and they ignore him and that situation works for all involved. He will go for walks and enjoys them initially but gets belligerent after about twenty minutes, especially if you opt to go in a direction which displeases him. I just think that you can see in the eyes of this dog that he’s seen and endured way more than any dog should, and he should therefore not be judged for his standoffish approach to humans. During grooming sessions I’ve seen the scars hidden by his thick coat, and they are many. Stanley fostered Royston Herts. Un-neutered puppies on spay/neuter contracts: £530 (You will receive a £100 rebate once you send us proof of neutering). Senior dogs (10+ years): £150–£250 (depending on age and individual needs). Adoption Policy When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate. Fences and gates must be 5ft min & secure.
