Wilma est arrivée dans notre centre suite à une urgence envoyée par une association appelée Pawprints to Freedom [PPTF]. Elle était dans un refuge en Roumanie, c'était très surpeuplé, bruyant et effrayant. Lorsque Wilma est arrivée chez eux, on disait qu'elle était amicale avec les gens et qu'ils ont même réussi à lui mettre un harnais et à la laisser sortir du refuge pendant un petit moment. Cependant, à mesure que cela devenait plus chargé, il n'y avait plus autant de temps dédié aux animaux individuellement. Lorsque les bénévoles sont revenus un an plus tard, elle était extrêmement craintive et ne quittait jamais la sécurité de son kennel froid et dur en bois. La seule fois où elle sortait la tête, c'était pour manger. C'était poignant de voir la différence par rapport à la première photo qu'ils avaient envoyée. Wilma aura besoin d'un foyer calme avec des adoptants patients et compréhensifs pendant qu'elle apprend à redevenir un chien et à profiter de la vie. Wilma semble très à l'aise avec les chiens. Elle ne s'interesse pas toutefois avant que tous les humains ne soient partis. Elle a très peur des humains et nous pensons donc qu'elle aura besoin d'au moins un autre chien dans le foyer qui sera gentil avec elle et lui montrera le chemin. Comme Wilma ne peut pas encore être manipulée / avoir un collier et une laisse mis, il n'y a aucun moyen sûr pour nous de la tester avec un chat, donc nous devrons chercher un foyer sans chat pour elle. Wilma montre un niveau d'énergie modéré. Wilma n'a jamais vécu dans un foyer auparavant, mais avec la compagnie d'un autre chien, nous pensons qu'elle pourrait supporter d'être laissée seule pendant jusqu'à 4 à 5 heures. Wilma est très loin d'être prête à porter un collier et une laisse. Il faudra très longtemps avant qu'elle ne soit suffisamment confiante pour marcher en laisse. Wilma n'a aucune forme de formation de base, cela viendra avec le temps une fois qu'elle sera installée dans son nouveau foyer et qu'elle apprendra à faire confiance à ses adoptants.

Wilma ended up in our care due to an urgent plea from a charity called Pawprints to Freedom . She was living in a shelter in Romania, it was very overcrowded, loud and scary. When Wilma first arrived with them, she was said to be friendly towards people and they were even able to get a harness on her and let her enjoy outside the shelter for a little while. As it got busier though, there can't be as much 1-1 time spent with the dogs. When volunteers visited her 1 year later, she was extremely fearful and would never leave the safety of her cold, hard, wooden kennel. The only time she'd pop her head out was for food. It was heart breaking to see the difference in her from the first picture they ever sent. Wilma will need a quiet home with patient and understanding adopters whilst she learns how to be a dog again and enjoy life. Wilma has shown to be very comfortable around dogs. She won't interact though until all humans have vacated. She's very fearful of humans and so we believe the she'll need at least one other dog in the home that would be kind to her and show her the ropes. As Wilma can not yet be handled / have a collar and lead put on her, there is no safe way for us to cat test her and so we will need to look for a cat free home for her. Wilma shows to have moderate energy levels Wilma has never lived in a home before however, with the company of another dog, we believe she could be ok to be left for up to 4-5 hours Wilma is a long way off being able to get a collar and lead on her. It will be a very long time until she is confident enough to walk on a lead. Wilma has no form of basic training, this will all come in time once she has settled into her new home and learns to trust her adopters.
