Oscar è un incrocio di forma whippey di piccole alle medie dimensioni, con circa un anno di età. Oscar ha avuto la peggior inizio di vita possibile. Abbandonato al rifugio pubblico di Botosani come cucciolo molto piccolo da persone che non lo avevano mai curato inizialmente. Le sue prime settimane trascorse come uno dei 150 cuccioli, nessuno dei quali era stato maneggiato, socializzato o riceveva altro che le cure più basilari. Quando arrivò il giorno in cui doveva viaggiare verso di noi aveva contratto una forte dose di tosse da canile e non poteva viaggiare, il che significava ulteriori settimane formative trascorse nello stesso modo. Quando arrivò nel nostro carico era traumatizzato e chiuso e non aveva più aspettative positive nel corpo o nell'anima. Purtroppo è richiesto mesi per portare Oscar a un punto in cui possiamo cercargli una casa, i danni erano profondi. È ancora preoccupato dalle persone nuove e dalle nuove situazioni, ma in ambienti familiari con le persone che fiducia è diventato abbastanza caratteristico. Il cibo è stato la chiave del suo cuore e inizialmente ha imparato ad amarci come dispensatori di cibo di grandi dimensioni. Ora apprezzia che i suoi umani offrono di più rispetto solo al cibo e permette attenzioni e affetto e anche si avvicina per chiederlo. È ancora un po' cauto con la guinzaglio che va indosso e via, ma ama le sue passeggiate e si comporta bene. Oscar necessiterà di un adopter esperto e l'essere presente un altro cane in casa a tempo pieno è essenziale. Potrebbe vivere con bambini rispettosi di età dodici anni in su. Gli adopter dovranno aspettarsi che possa nascondersi nei primi giorni poiché le nuove situazioni sono ancora spaventose. Ha dimostrato di avere la capacità di imparare a un ritmo costante e desidera essere parte di una famiglia e far cadere l'ultima delle sue barriere. Se il tuo cane si spaventa, allora la guinzaglio è l'unica via per evitare che scappi (molti cani possono scappare da collare e/o guinzaglio). Ci vorranno ALMENO 3-6 mesi per farlo abituare e conoscere pienamente il tuo cane (più a lungo per cani nervosi). La guinzaglio deve SEMPRE essere utilizzata durante questo periodo di abitudine. Anche dopo che il cane si è abituato, è più sicuro utilizzare la guinzaglio in situazioni in cui il cane potrebbe spaventarsi (ad esempio visitando luoghi nuovi, intorno a persone sconosciute, dal veterinario), e in situazioni in cui potrebbero verificarsi trigger inaspettati (ad esempio intorno al fuoco d'artificio). I cani nervosi potrebbero dover sempre indossare la guinzaglio come misura di sicurezza aggiuntiva. Oscar is a small to medium sized whippety shaped crossbreed aged around a year old. Oscar has had the worst start in life possible. Abandoned at the Botosani public shelter as a tiny puppy by people who never cared for him in the first place. His early weeks spent as one of 150 puppies, none of them being handled, socialised or anything but the most basic of care. When it came to the day that he was due to travel to us he had contracted a bad dose of kennel cough and he couldn’t travel, meaning more formative weeks spent in much the same way. When he arrived in our care he was traumatised and shut down and had no positive expectations left in his body or soul. Sadly it has taken months to get Oscar to the point that we can look for a home for him, the damage ran deep. He is still concerned by new people and new situations, but in familiar surroundings with the people he trusts he’s become quite a character. Food has been the key to his heart and he initially learned to love us as life sized good dispensers. He now appreciates that his humans have more to offer than just food and will allow fuss and affection and even approach to ask for it. He’s still a little wary of the lead going on and off but he enjoys his walks and behaves well. Oscar will need an experienced adopter and another dog in the home full time is essential. He could live with respectful children aged twelve plus. Adopters will need to expect for him to potentially hide up for the first few days as new situations are still scary. He has shown that he has the capacity to learn at a steady rate and he wants to be a part of a family and let the last of his walls fall down. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate. Fences and gates must be 5ft min & secure.
