Ureka è una bambina molto preoccupata che ha trovato la transizione nella vita di salvataggio incredibilmente opprimente. Anche se Ureka sta trovando le cose molto oppressive in questo momento, crediamo che nel posto giusto prospererà. Avrà bisogno di adottanti esperti che comprendano le esigenze dei cani molto spaventati provenienti da allevamenti e che siano disposti a lasciarla ambientarsi completamente al proprio ritmo, senza aspettative. Cercherà una casa tranquilla, silenziosa, solo per adulti dove potrà iniziare a sentirsi al sicuro e protetta. Avrà anche bisogno di almeno un altro cane gentile e sicuro di sé che possa mostrarle le basi e aiutarla a costruire fiducia mentre si adatta alla sua nuova vita. Poiché Ureka non ha mai vissuto in una casa prima, tutto sarà completamente nuovo per lei. Avrà bisogno di adottanti pazienti e comprensivi che possano guidarla con delicatezza attraverso tutte le cose che la maggior parte dei cani dà per scontate, tra cui l'addestramento alla toeletta, le routine domestiche e imparare a fidarsi delle persone. Ureka has come to us from a breeder to find her forever home. When she first arrived she was an incredibly worried little girl who found the transition into rescue life very overwhelming. She struggled to settle in the kennel environment and, when anxious, could spin in her kennel. To help her, she spent time in one of our quieter offices with another dog for company, where she did not show any spinning but still found it difficult to relax. Ureka has now moved to a wonderful foster home and is getting to experience home life for the first time ever. We are very pleased to say that there has been no spinning during her time in a home environment. It may be that she found the kennel environment particularly difficult, although her adopters will need to be aware that this behaviour could potentially resurface if she becomes very worried or overwhelmed in her new home. Ureka will be looking for a calm and quiet, adult only home with adopters who have experience with scared ex-breeding dogs and who are prepared to give her the time and patience she needs to settle in at her own pace and gain confidence through gentle, positive experiences. She will need at least one other kind and confident resident dog in her new home to take her under their wing. She relies on other dogs for comfort and reassurance and having another dog in the home will help her continue to build confidence. In foster, Ureka is beginning to show more of her personality. She is happy to potter around the home and garden and is fairly relaxed on walks in quiet areas, where she enjoys having plenty of time to sniff and explore. She is comfortable around other dogs and has been good with both the resident dogs in her foster home and dogs she meets while out on walks. Ureka is still a very nervous girl and can become worried by handling or unfamiliar situations. When anxious, she may grumble, bark, growl or flinch, but she has never attempted to snap or bite, but her adopters will need to be understanding and allow her to settle at her own pace and not push her out of her comfort zone too quickly. Although she is not completely comfortable with being handled, she is gradually allowing her fosterer to stroke her, put her harness on and pick her up. She is also beginning to understand that people can be trusted. Ureka is food motivated and will approach for treats, which is helping her to build positive associations with people. Although she is usually fed separately, she is happy to share her food. As Ureka has never lived in a home before moving to foster, there is still a lot for her to learn and her adopters will need to be kind and understanding as she settles in and continues to learn all about home life and new skills like house training. Ureka has already made some lovely progress during her time in foster, but she is still very much at the beginning of her journey. She will need a very special home with adopters who are willing to work with her and help her become a happy, confident and well-rounded little girl. With time, patience, understanding and the support of kind canine companion, we hope she can continue to discover that life in a home can be a safe and wonderful place. Ureka has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
