Hilda is een grote Roemeense herderskruising. Haar paspoort zegt dat ze in februari 2019 is geboren, maar ze gedraagt zich een beetje ouder dan zes jaar. Wij zijn al jaren deel van Hilda's leven en zij is deel van ons leven geweest. Ze was voor het eerst in het particuliere dierenasiel in Crivatu, Roemenië toen wij er voor het eerst kwamen en bleef daar tot 2024. Het verhaal hoe ze gerecuseerd werd, als het eigenlijk waar is, is te gruwelijk om te publiceren, dus ik zal alleen zeggen dat ze veel heeft meegemaakt en dat ze, hoewel begrijpelijk bang is voor mensen, ons met niets dan zachtheid behandelt. Hilda is een grote hond met een rustige aanwezigheid. Ze beweegt met elegantie en zelfvertrouwen en is zeer koninklijk in haar gedrag. Ze zal vreemden vermijden als ze kan, maar als ze zich aan de mensen in het huis gewend is, kiest ze ervoor dichtbij te blijven en lijkt altijd alsof ze graag een knuffel wil, maar ze is nog niet helemaal klaar daarvoor. Als je naar haar toe gaat, is ze gelukkig met een knuffel of borsteling en valt ze met haar hoofd op je schoot in slaap. Hilda heeft weinig zin in wandelingen en wil echt niet langer dan vijftien minuten lopen. We zijn niet zeker of dit een crisis van zelfvertrouwen is of een mobiliteitsprobleem, ze is moeilijk te lezen. Ze loopt goed op een riem, maar kan paniek krijgen als ze geschrokken wordt, dus we zoeken een rustig landgoed voor haar omdat ze zich niet goed zou redden in veel verkeer of mensenmassa’s. Ondanks haar angst is Hilda een zoete hond, ze heeft een rustige en stilte omgeving nodig zonder kinderen onder de twaalf jaar en met tenminste één andere hond. Iedereen die overweegt haar te adopteren moet rustig en geduldig zijn bij het verwerven van haar vertrouwen en misschien zal ze nooit volledig openstaan voor mensen vanwege de horreur van haar verleden. Ze is oké met de veilige reddingskat, maar kijkt hem niet aan. Hilda opperde Norwich Norfolk. ADOPTIE KOSTEN Vanaf 1 december 2025 zijn Puppies die al gecastreerd zijn en alle volwassen honden: £430. Ongecastreerde puppies op een castratie-overeenkomst: £530 (U ontvangt een korting van £100 wanneer u ons bewijs van castratie stuurt). Oudere honden (10+ jaren): £150–£250 (afhankelijk van leeftijd en individuele behoeften). ADOPTIE VOORWAARDEN Wanneer u een hond van Safe Rescue adopteert, MOET u een slip-lead gebruiken. Dit houdt uw hond veilig: uw nieuwe hond zal nerveus zijn en u niet vertrouwen, en u weet niet welke situaties uw hond mogelijk beledigen. Als uw hond in paniek raakt, is een slip-lead de enige manier om te voorkomen dat uw hond ontsnapt (veel honden kunnen ontsnappen uit een halsband en/of rugzak). Het duurt MINSTENS 3-6 maanden voordat uw hond zich heeft ingezet en u uw hond volledig kent (langer voor nervoze honden). De slip-lead MOET ALTID gebruikt worden tijdens deze inzetperiode. Zelfs nadat uw hond zich heeft ingezet, is het veiligst om de slip-lead te gebruiken in situaties waarin uw hond mogelijk bang wordt (bijvoorbeeld bij bezoeken aan nieuwe plekken, rondom onbekende mensen, bij de dierenarts), en situaties waar onverwachte triggers kunnen optreden (bijvoorbeeld rond bonfire night). Nerveuze honden moeten altijd een slip-lead dragen als back-up veiligheidsmaatregel. De slip-lead is een veiligheidsapparaat en mag NOOIT gebruikt worden als oefeninstrument. Hilda is a large Romanian shepherd cross. Her passport says she was born Feb 2019 but she acts a bit older than six. We have been a part of Hilda’s life and her a part of ours for years. She was in the private shelter in Crivatu Romania the very first time we visited and stayed there until 2024. The story of how she came to be rescued, if indeed it’s true, is too horrible to put into print so I will just say that she has been through a lot and, although understandably scared of people, treats us with nothing but gentleness. Hilda is a large dog with a calm presence. She moves with grace and poise and is quite regal in her demeanour. She will avoid strangers if she can but once she is used to the people in the home she will choose to be close by and always looks like she wants to come for a fuss but she’s just not quite ready yet. When you go to her she is happy to be fussed and groomed and will fall asleep with her head on your lap. Hilda is not keen on her walks and really doesn’t want to go for more than fifteen minutes. We are not sure if this is a crisis of confidence or if it’s a mobility issue, she’s a difficult dog to read. She walks nicely on a lead but can panic when spooked so we are looking for a rural home for her as she will not cope with a lot of traffic or crowds. Despite her fears Hilda is such a gentle dog, she will need a calm and quiet environment with no children under twelve and with at least one other dog. Anyone considering adopting her must be calm and patient in gaining her trust and maybe she will never fully open up to humans due to the horrors of her past. Adoption Terms & Conditions When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate.
