Riki

Male · Adult · 7 years

Riki is a small, middle-aged mixed-breed dog who dreams of nothing more than feeling safe and having a human he can trust. He’s a dog with a big heart and an exceptionally gentle nature. At the shelter, he doesn’t feel entirely secure, so at first he tends to be wary and cautious. However, given time, patience, and space, Riki slowly begins to open up and reveal his wonderful true self. And the word “slowly” is key to winning his heart. Riki is a sensitive boy who observes the world carefully and takes everything happening around him very much to heart. He can get startled by loud noises, the snap of a gate, or even a broken stick. He doesn’t enjoy noisy places and feels much more comfortable on quiet walks away from the hustle and bustle of the city. What brings him the greatest joy is sniffing around and exploring his surroundings. Although he keeps his distance initially, once he trusts someone, he eagerly seeks their support. He’ll come up close, snuggle against you, and accept gentle petting with immense gratitude. Riki is a very affectionate, subtle, and incredibly charming dog. He loves being close to his caregiver, especially when he’s feeling anxious. Riki knows his own boundaries and communicates them very clearly. He needs a caregiver who respects his signals and doesn’t put any pressure on him. In return, he’ll repay that trust with ever-growing loyalty and attachment. He’s not a fan of vet visits, so he requires a calm, understanding approach. What kind of home are we looking for for Riki? - A calm and patient home, free from excessive stimuli. - Ideally located outside the city center or in a quiet neighborhood. - With a caregiver who understands that trust builds step by step. - Without small children who might unintentionally cross his boundaries. - A calm, well-balanced canine companion would be welcome—someone who could show him that the world isn’t as scary as it seems (though this isn’t a strict requirement). Riki was found tied up near a store. We don’t know why someone abandoned him. What we do know is that he deserves something far better—a caring, loving home that will help him rebuild his sense of security and self-confidence and never let him down again. We’re not yet sure how Riki interacts with other companion animals, including cats. During the adoption process, we recommend a pre-adoption visit to see how Riki adjusts to his new home and potential walking area. If Riki were to join a household where another animal already lives, a meet-and-greet with that resident would be required.

Riki to niewielki kundelek w średnim wieku, który najbardziej marzy o jednym – o poczuciu bezpieczeństwa i człowieku, któremu będzie mógł zaufać. To piesek o wielkim sercu i niezwykle delikatnej naturze. Największą radość sprawia mu węszenie i eksploracja otoczenia. - Spokojnego i cierpliwego, bez nadmiaru bodźców. Nie wiemy, dlaczego ktoś go porzucił.

About Riki

What life with Riki looks like

Riki is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Riki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Riki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Riki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Riki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Riki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Riki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Riki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
