Abby

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 7 years

Irina found three tiny kittens, aged 1–1.5 months, sitting visibly in a bucket today on her way to work near her sister Elena’s dacha. Irina writes: "Good day! In our city, it's horrifying what's going on—everywhere, abandoned kittens and puppies are being dumped in sheds or onto streets where cars drive. Today I went to the dacha, and just three meters from our hut stood a dirty bucket with three kittens inside. What should I do? My sister arrived at the hut early this morning, and that bucket wasn’t there yet." Tiny, 1.5 months old, fluffy, and utterly adorable, this still slightly timid little girl presents herself. Our Minis are growing livelier every day thanks to the wonderful care from our dear Omsk girls—it's remarkable how bold Abby has become now; just yesterday she was terribly frightened. Keep it up—you must grow and thrive and become big and strong! On January 6th, Abby’s gums looked completely unreddened during her big pre-departure veterinary check-up, but today Mascha got a fright when she peeked into Abby’s mouth. So Mascha and Roma took the kitten—who is right in the middle of transitioning from kittenhood to cat-teenager—straight to the vet clinic. Mascha writes: "The doctors said the redness in the gums is due to teething. One tooth was removed because it was injuring the gum. Abby is losing her baby teeth, and two new teeth are pushing through the gums." Get well soon, little Abby—may your teething troubles be over soon.

Irina schreibt: "Guten Tag ! Was soll ich tun?

About Abby

What life with Abby looks like

Abby is a very small adult european shorthair cat waiting at Samtpfötchen Hilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Abby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Abby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Samtpfötchen Hilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Abby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Abby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Samtpfötchen Hilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Abby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Abby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Samtpfötchen Hilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Abby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
