adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Achilles has found his own home! His story: It took over 3 years for someone to finally notice our handsome Achilles and give him a foster home. Now he finally has the chance to show how much potential he has – and that he is absolutely ready for his own family. Achilles was found as a puppy with his mother Bacardi and his siblings Eve and Hummel at a park, where they regularly begged for food. For the visitors there, they were a nuisance, which is why Dorel took them to Busag to ensure they wouldn't suffer anything worse. In the shelter, Achilles always showed himself to be extremely shy and reserved. Only Dorel could get close to him, and he would usually flee at the sight of strangers. However, his appearance in his foster home, which he visited in late January 2025, was a pleasant and surprising surprise. There, Achilles is anything but shy and even asks for cuddles. From the start, he allowed being handled everywhere and soon needed a much-needed bath. He is lively, cheerful, and very affectionate. He also gets along well with the only dog and regularly invites him to play. Achilles has already had a necessary eye operation, during which his left eye was removed. The operation was successful, and it seems as though a great weight has been lifted from him – he now appears much more relaxed and at ease. He has no limitations due to this. The leash is also no longer a problem for him: Achilles has made great progress and now enjoys his walks. It is wonderful to see how he is developing and gaining confidence. Achilles is approximately 4 years old and about 60 cm tall. He is a beautiful male dog who impresses with his looks. We cannot rule out that Achilles brings herding dog genes. His new family should address this or already have experience with these breed characteristics. Achilles is definitely not a city dog. Herding dogs have a very independent character and need their space. For Achilles, we wish for experienced, empathetic, and calm people who know how to handle his nature. A quiet place where not much is expected or demanded of him, but where he can simply be as he is. A quiet spot somewhere in the countryside where Achilles can bask in the sun in a well-fenced garden. Achilles travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated to his new home. He will bring an EU pet passport with him after a positive adoption. Who will give Achilles his own family? Many thanks to Karola E.-S.! You gave Achilles his name! Date: 12.08. This is a young, adolescent dog.

Vielen Dank Karola E.-S.! Du hast Achilles seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 12.08.2025

About Achilles

What life with Achilles looks like

Achilles is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Achilles, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Achilles?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Achilles on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Achilles if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Achilles already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Achilles isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Achilles and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
