Adopt Adan

Galgo Español · Male · Adult · 4 years

Spanish Greyhound male dog 10.06.2021 68 cm Adan is a Galgo from a hunter's hand, who was no longer wanted and came to our partner organisation PROA in Madrid. Finally, he was able to come into our care and is now waiting for people who can give him security and stability. Adan, the reserved one. Adan takes a look at things first and observes everything around him. He now has to process many new impressions and learn that he can come out of his room without being expected to perform or facing violence. Adan likes being outside on the lawn, and he enjoys going for walks. He sniffs everything and gains an overview with his calm nature. And then he suddenly stands in front of someone, very carefully, looks at them and seeks affection and physical contact. His room mate Maira is a great support for him, he seeks her company and also likes to lie with her in the bed. Character and temperament - Basic temperament: calm, cautious, playful. - Trust in people: Shy, but curious. He needs a little time to build up trust. - Willingness to make contact, approach: Waiting. But he tries it more and more often, as his interest increasingly outweighs his hesitation. - Social behavior towards dogs: He is social, especially with female dogs. - Social behavior towards cats: Not tested Behavior and everyday skills - Uncertainties: With loud noises, quick movements or when it is simply too much for him. When eating, he needs his peace and a bit of encouragement. He is now slowly understanding that the food bowl is entirely his and he doesn't have to share. - Ability to adapt to new situations: Good - Exploratory behavior: Careful, but not panicking. He first looks at things and then decides whether it is okay for him. Movement and activity level - Desire to move: High, he needs the opportunity to run free in a secured area. - Leash training: Good - Willingness to learn: Average - Hunting drive: Present We are looking for people for Adan who can give him security and safety and enable him to meet fellow animals. He is already a wonderful companion, and with the right person by his side, his happiness would be complete. Adan is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered and tested for Mediterranean diseases. About Adan

What life with Adan looks like

Adan is a extra-large adult galgo español dog waiting at New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz in Waltenschwil.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Adan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Adan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
