Adopt Willy

Galgo Español · Male · Young · 1 year

Galgo Español male dog 01.02.2025 66 cm Willy originally came from a hunter in the region of Madrid, Spain. After the hunting season, he was given up because the hunter deemed him unsuitable for hunting. Through a local animal welfare organization, he then came to our partner organization in Madrid, where he is cared for and prepared for his journey to Switzerland. Willy, the delicate young one. Willy is currently our youngest sheltered animal at the station, and he is doing very well. Although he is still a bit reserved for his age, he is coming out of his shell more and more. He is underweight, and we are trying to bring his digestive system back to health so that he can gain weight. Minimal stress also helps him to adapt to the new situation. Unfortunately, Willy had an injury at the tip of his penis upon his arrival in Switzerland, which is now being treated by our veterinarian. Character and nature – Temperament: cautious, playful, sensitive – Trust in humans: open – Affection, approach: actively seeking – Social behavior towards dogs: unsure – Social behavior towards cats: not tested Behavior and daily competence – Uncertainties: Willy shows uncertainties in interacting with his fellow animals and in the environment while out for walks. However, he walks well on a leash and is beginning to show some curiosity. It just needs a bit more routine in his daily life. – Adaptability to new situations: Willy needs some time and training, as everything is still very new to him. – Exploratory behavior: He is cautious but curious, and it is getting better every day. Activity level – Exercise drive: high, he requires free run in a secure area. – Leash handling: needs practice. He must first learn to walk on a leash and get used to environmental stimuli. Then, Willy will become a reliable companion. – Learning readiness: moderate – Hunting motivation: present We wish for Willy people who will gradually show the young male dog the big wide world and welcome him into his new life as part of the family. A visit to the dog training classes and regular contact with his fellow animals would benefit Willy. Willy is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. Interested?

Interessiert? About Willy

What life with Willy looks like

Willy is a extra-large young adult galgo español dog waiting at New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz in Waltenschwil.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Willy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Willy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Willy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Willy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Willy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Willy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Willy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
