Adopt Rumba

Galgo Español · Female · Adult · 8 years

Galgo Español female dog, born 11.01.2018, 67 cm Rumba stems from the terrible blood bank scandal, where in 2023 over 200 animals were seized by the authorities. The animals had to live under inhumane conditions, and only those who were not weakened by blood draws and could assert themselves against their fellow animals survived. Our partner organization took in over 20 dogs in a night-and-day operation. Rumba is now the last of these dogs. She was very frightened and shy but has begun to trust people in recent months after learning that hands can not only hit but also stroke. She can now arrive in peace and find her peace with patient and sensitive people. Rumba, the Cautious One. Who can blame Rumba for not joyfully meeting people? Despite this almost unimaginable story, she is already warming up to us. She is still reserved but is already making progress every day. She is relatively relaxed on walks and is happy to go. Character and nature—temperament: calm, cautious, gentle—Trust in people: shy, she needs time—Approachability, closeness: waiting, observing—Social behavior towards dogs: selective, she is currently not particularly interested in her fellow animals—Social behavior towards cats: not tested Behavior and daily competence—Anxieties: loud noises, quick movements—Adaptability to new situations: considering her background, she does pretty well—Exploratory behavior: cautious. It goes better if the person gives her some space. Activity level—Activity drive: very high, she needs secure off-leash opportunities—Leash handling: satisfactory—Learning readiness: average—Prey drive: present We wish for Rumba people who will give her the necessary time, meet her with patience and kindness, and accompany her at her own pace. People who accept when she does not want something but also challenge her once in a while so she can feel more secure in new situations. Rumba is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. Interested?

About Rumba

What life with Rumba looks like

Rumba is a extra-large adult galgo español dog waiting at New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz in Waltenschwil.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rumba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rumba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rumba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rumba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rumba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rumba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rumba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
