Aelia

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 13 years

Aelia was rescued from Targu Jiu in 2023. At the time she was emaciated, exhausted, and without hope. Since then she has recovered, put on weight, and is showing her zest for life once again. However, Aelia is a very anxious, shy, and reserved female dog who avoids being touched and withdraws quickly. Despite her insecurity, she is gentle, sweet, and shares a kennel peacefully with other dogs. Aelia has now been waiting for three long years, an unimaginably long time for an older female dog who really needs warmth, calm, and security. The shelter is an enormous physical and emotional burden for her. Especially for dogs her age, the hot summers and bitterly cold winters in Romania are very hard to endure. Aelia should not have to go through these extreme conditions again. She urgently needs the chance to leave the country. That is why we are looking for an experienced foster home or a permanent home for her, ideally with a confident, friendly resident dog who can give her guidance and security. We are looking for people who have experience with fearful dogs, who bring patience, and who give her the time she needs to build trust. Aelia has endured so much and never given up. Now she needs people who are serious about her and who show her that her golden years do not have to end in a shelter, but in a home that finally gives her peace. Aelia will be vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered after a positive pre-screening, and will be placed through the animal welfare association Vierbeiner in Not e. V. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog may behave differently in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new setting. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself in the shelter, and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Aelia

What life with Aelia looks like

Aelia is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aelia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aelia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aelia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aelia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Aelia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aelia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aelia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
