Repsol

Mixed Breed · Male

Repsol – at first hearing, it sounds unfamiliar to German ears and one wonders what it has to do with the name. But the story behind the naming of our clever new arrival is quickly explained: the handsome, two-and-a-half-year-old male dog lived for over a year near a gas station – and Repsol is the largest oil company in Spain. The extremely intelligent Greyhound, who thus got his rescuer’s name, because the gas station owner fed him for months, is likely a victim of the previous hunting season. However, the quick and highly attentive Greyhound has decided under no circumstances to return to human hands. Who could blame him, beautiful experiences hunting and racing dogs never have at their handlers in Spain … Only with a live trap at Repsol’s usual feeding spot and the promise of all bipeds not to feed the dog elsewhere, did the animal protection workers of Arca Sevilla manage to take the cautious but very friendly gentleman into their care. Now, Repsol lives in the animal shelter of Arca, and our friends report that he is making progress every day in terms of trust and contact. At this point, Repsol allows himself to be petted, remains calm in situations that have become routine (feeding times, cleaning, etc.), but he is still always on guard and ready to flee at any moment. New people, new sounds, unpredictable events – then one only sees a streak of smoke from the lightning-fast male dog and knows he will be found in his enclosure later. Repsol is not overly fearful; he has simply learned during his life on the streets that one should never be careless, and that humans are capable of causing harm, killing, screaming, and tormenting – he must have internalized that early on. However, he shows, like many of our abused charges, what forgiveness means impressively. We are looking for special people for this special dog, preferably those with experience with Greyhounds and their quirks and demands. It will take a while before you can walk with Repsol without fear that he will take off at every opportunity. We recommend double safety for the first few weeks of adoption, and it is a must for Repsol. A dream scenario would be a (highly) fenced-in garden, so the friendly super-athlete can still get his exercise and practice playing as a real family dog with his bipeds. If you bring time, patience, and a sense of humor, and know that waiting will pay off when a dog with a story forms a friendship, and if the Windhound adventure is not foreign to you or you can be accompanied by an experienced dog trainer, then please give our forgotten hunting Greyhounds a chance. Whether it is Repsol or another of our Greyhounds or Podencos, you will become part of a large, and growing, community. And often, the story ends with: “Once a Greyhound, always a Greyhound!”

DE·Show original

About Repsol

What life with Repsol looks like

Repsol is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Repsol, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Repsol?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Repsol on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Repsol if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Repsol already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Repsol isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Repsol and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
