adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this dog! The beautiful white Aico had luck on his side and could exchange the cold pen he was always struggling to cope with in February 2023 for a Romanian shelter with rescuer Mara. However, he still lives in an outdoor pen. Aico has developed well over the past two years, but he still desperately needs his own home where he can live indoors and have his own family. Aico is a ca. 7.5-year-old male dog, standing ca. 55-60 cm at the shoulder, and has a good medium size. He looks like a Labrador, but could possibly be a mix. Before coming to Mara, he hadn't had much of a chance to get to know things, kept his distance to observe new situations closely, and barely enjoyed being touched. With Mara and her partner Paul, he shows typical Labrador behavior, is friendly with other dogs, playful, and learns quickly. He runs around and is curious. He enjoys being touched by Mara and Paul and shows them his love every day. Whenever he sees them, he beams and wags his tail. With strangers, Aico is often still unsure, especially with men, with whom the poor fellow likely had bad experiences. Sometimes he barks at them. A confident single dog by his side would be helpful for him to build trust. He is not yet familiar with a collar and leash and does not like being put on them. Regular training would be helpful here. We very much hope that Aico finds a place with experienced dog owners who can take the next steps with him into a normal dog life. A quiet rural environment and a confident single dog would certainly help him settle into his new life.

About Aico

What life with Aico looks like

Aico is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
