Adopt Aika

Chihuahua · Female · Adult · 8 years

I am Aika – a rather shy, friendly, and reserved female dog. In new situations, I sometimes need a bit of time to build trust, preferring to observe first in peace and orienting myself to the people around me. If given this time, however, I show my loving and gentle side. Other dogs are fine with me, and therefore, a nice second dog that I can orient myself to would be welcome in my new home. A quiet household would suit me particularly well, as chaos and hustle and bustle are not my thing. Although I am small, I do not want to be carried around all the time. I like to walk on my own and wish for people who enjoy relaxed walks and take me seriously as any other dog. Walking together and discovering the world in peace sounds great. As a Chihuahua, my future people should be aware that this breed can bring some health issues due to their breeding. Therefore, I wish for people who address these issues and handle my needs responsibly. Currently, however, no health problems are known to me. I am looking for loving, patient people who give me security and want to go through life with me step by step. Born: 16.05.2018 Breed: Chihuahua Color:

Geboren : 16.05.2018 Rasse : Chihuahua Farbe : gestrommt

About Aika

What life with Aika looks like

Aika is a small adult chihuahua dog waiting at Tierheim am Böhler in Unterkulm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim am Böhler handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim am Böhler will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim am Böhler early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
