Adopt Aiki

Akita · Female · Young · 3 years

Aiki is a beautiful akita girl, 3 years old. She came to us after a distance because the care had become too much. Aiki is just as happy living in a run both during the day and at night with 2 other dogs. During her first 6 months of life, she was allowed to come inside but unfortunately, never again. Despite spending her entire life in the run, she is incredibly open here. Here, we got to know Aiki as a super enthusiastic and loving lady! She is everyone's friend here and other dogs are no problem for her. She walks nicely on a leash but is a bit protective on walks and unfamiliar things can sometimes be a bit scary. We do, however, see a lady who is growing quickly and doing her very best. Aiki would be content at home and no longer bites anything. She tried not to escape from the garden, the fence was about 1.80 meters high. Now, Aiki is looking for her well-deserved golden bowl. She can be tested with her own dog. She can be placed with children from 16 years and older. Aiki is now looking for a home where she CAN be 100% part of the family because that's what she deserves. Who can give our lady a beautiful warm home?

About Aiki

What life with Aiki looks like

Aiki is a young adult akita dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aiki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aiki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aiki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aiki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aiki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aiki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aiki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
