Adopt Aimee

Maltese · Female · Senior · 12 years

Give Aimee the time she needs, and you’ll have a loving friend. She needs nurturing and confidence building. She may hide from new people and new dogs initially. Out and about on her lead will need building up gradually, quiet, calm locations, so she doesn’t have to feel overwhelmed by the world around her. She likes cheese as a treat which is a great start to a new friendship; sitting on the floor and waiting quietly for Aimee to choose to bond has so far proven a success! Once you’re best buds, Aimee enjoys a fuss, will snuggle in close and is happy to be pampered and have her hair brushed. Aimee is an 12-year-old Maltese with a shy, timid personality. Adopters will need to be full of patience, compassion and understanding. Aimee needs lots of reassurance and time to adjust. She is looking for a home with adult adopters in a quiet home environment. She no history around cats, small furries or livestock, and is looking to be the only dog in the home. Aimee is nervous of unknown people including any new visitors to the home and needs time to build relationships. She is used to company so time left alone will need to be built up gradually. Amiee travels well in the car.

About Aimee

What life with Aimee looks like

Aimee is a small senior maltese dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aimee, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aimee?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aimee on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aimee if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aimee already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aimee isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aimee and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
