adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Behind the sonorous name Akemi hides a young female dog who possesses both depth and charm. The approximately 6-7 month old beauty is one of seven siblings; while five of her siblings have already found their happiness at the shelter, Akemi now waits together with her sister Mrs. Cool for the moment when her own story begins. Although Akemi looks like a "lamb in dog form," a heart with exciting facets beats within her. Akemi is likely to grow to a medium to large size. While the father is unknown, the mother (a ca. 22 kg heavy, white female dog) has undoubtedly passed on her herd guard dog genes. This also explains her distinctive appearance, which is more "sheep-like." This makes Akemi a very special companion: The herd guard dog within her ensures natural cleverness, sensitivity, and a healthy dose of skepticism towards strangers. Akemi is not a dog who conquers the world with stormy enthusiasm. She is a quiet observer who assesses situations from a distance before opening her heart. This is also typical of a herd guard dog. Since Akemi currently lives in a foster home in the outdoor area, the "Adventure House" is still completely new to her. Whether vacuum cleaner, stairs, or being alone—she must learn the entire dog ABC. However, she already perfectly masters social interaction: She gets along well with other dogs and even cats and shows herself to be completely uncomplicated in this regard. However, one should consider that Akemi is about to enter puberty. During this "adolescent phase," hormones will rearrange her head, and what has been learned so far may seem like it has been blown away. Here, people are needed who can accompany Akemi through this stormy time with calmness, humor, and a lovingly consistent guidance. A visit to the dog training classes will help her to mature into the sovereign and loyal companion that lies within her. For Akemi, we wish for a quiet rural home. The hustle and bustle of a city would overwhelm her sensitive side. We are looking for people who have patience and give her the space she needs to arrive at her own pace. Those with experience with strong-willed mixed breeds will find an exceptionally loyal companion in Akemi. Akemi is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She brings her EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive home check. A foster home would also be a wonderful start for her future. That Akemi can now go out into the world with this proud name is due to her namesake Sue S., who has given her the first building block for her own identity. As of: 23.04.

About Akemi

What life with Akemi looks like

Akemi is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akemi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akemi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akemi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akemi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Akemi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akemi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akemi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
