Al Capone came to Farplace on 16th January 2021, estimated to be around five years old at the time. He arrived from another rescue in London as a feral cat, but anyone meeting him now would find that hard to believe! Al has come on incredibly well and is now a very friendly, affectionate boy who absolutely loves attention. He’s been with us for a long time and is one of those cats who has sadly been overlooked time and time again. Al is FIV positive, but this really isn’t something to be frightened of. FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) affects a cat’s immune system, but many FIV-positive cats go on to live long, happy and fulfilling lives. It isn’t a death sentence, and FIV-positive cats can make wonderful companions. They simply need sensible ongoing care, a healthy diet and regular veterinary checks to keep an eye on their health. Al has a few other ongoing health needs, but nothing that currently causes us major concern. He has no teeth, making him our very own adorable little gummy bear, and he absolutely loves his food! He does struggle with his weight, so he’s on a special diet and needs his weight monitored carefully. Al also has calicivirus, which means he can be a little snotty and congested. He has daily medication to help manage this, which he takes like an absolute champ. His new family would simply need to be comfortable continuing his medication and keeping an eye on him to make sure his symptoms don’t worsen. Despite all of this, Al is a lovely, friendly boy who enjoys being brushed, loves his food and is very happy in the company of his FIV-positive friends. We’d ideally love him to go to a home with one of his friends from our FIV section, so he has a familiar feline companion to settle in with. FIV-positive cats can so easily get overlooked, and Al has certainly spent long enough waiting. He’s got so much love to give and we’d really love someone to look past the FIV label and give this wonderful boy the chance he deserves. Al needs an indoor-only home. A secure catio or enclosed garden would be a lovely bonus, but isn’t essential. As with all of our cats, Al will leave Farplace castrated, microchipped and with his flea and worm treatment up to date, and following a full health check. We’ll also provide you with a full copy of his veterinary records to keep for your own records when he goes off to his new home. Indoor-only policy If you feel you could offer this lovely cat the right home, please email for an adoption questionnaire. We can then arrange a home check. We are happy to consider homes up to around two hours’ travel from the rescue. Any further than this can make it difficult for us to offer the support we feel is important after adoption. We hope you understand.
