Alabama (& Dakota)

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Kitten · 3 months

Hi... we’re Dakota and Alabama and we're around 10 weeks old!We were found in a garage with our mum, and when help first came, she got frightened and ran away. But NAWT didn't gave up on us, they came back every day until we could all be reunited. Since then, we’ve been safe, warm, and learning how to trust. We’re a little shy when we first meet new people. The world can feel quite big sometimes, so we just like to take a step back and watch for a while. But once we feel comfortable... that’s when our sweet, gentle personalities start to shine. We’re very close and take lots of comfort in each other. You’ll often find us playing together, little bursts of zoomies, chasing and pouncing, before settling down in a cosy cuddle pile. Being together makes everything feel a bit less scary. We’re looking for a calm, quieter home where we can continue to grow in confidence. Older, understanding children would be okay, as long as they give us time and space. Dogs would be too much for us, but we might be able to live with a calm, friendly cat.We may not be the kittens who run straight up to you... but if you give us patience and kindness, we’ll show you just how loving we can be.There’s something very special about earning the trust of shy kittens, and we promise, we’re worth it.Could we find our forever home with you? About Alabama (& Dakota)

What life with Alabama (& Dakota) looks like

Alabama (& Dakota) is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed cat cat waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alabama (& Dakota), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alabama (& Dakota)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alabama (& Dakota) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alabama (& Dakota) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alabama (& Dakota) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alabama (& Dakota) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alabama (& Dakota) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
