Alarik &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Alarik came with his three siblings. They spent most of their lives so far on a terrace, together with their parents. The four were born here in Switzerland, their parents are from abroad. Finally, the four puppies were taken away and are now in a dog pension with us until new homes are found (the parent dogs are in a different pension). Alarik gets along with fellow animals but is not suitable for handling cats. He needs dog-experienced (Nordic dog breeds) and active people who can adopt him as a family member, support him, but not overwhelm him. He is also suitable for families with responsible older children. He is available as a first or second dog. Alarik is vaccinated and microchipped and will be rehomed for 600.—. We thank you for your understanding if the processing of your request takes a little longer. We will do our best to give you a response as soon as possible. However, it may happen that we receive many inquiries at once or that our resources are temporarily needed elsewhere.

About Alarik &#8211

What life with Alarik &#8211 looks like

Alarik &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alarik &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alarik &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alarik &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alarik &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alarik &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alarik &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alarik &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
