Adopt Alen

Male · Young · 1 year

During our project tour in June 2025, we naturally also visited our partner animal shelter in Arzachena. There were some new arrivals that we wanted to get to know. And we were also looking forward to seeing some familiar fur noses again. Among the new arrivals were these two wonderful, still young male dogs. Alen and Alex are brothers; they were adopted by loving people when they were still babies. They lived on the land with a couple, were well cared for, and even vaccinated. As the boys grew older and began to explore the surroundings, people built a fence to keep them in the area around the house. But the brothers always found ways to overcome the fence and go for walks. Although they didn't harm anyone, the neighbors were not pleased with the visits, and, as usual, there were also threats. Because the owners saw no way to secure the fence so that Alen and Alex couldn't go for walks anymore but were worried that something might happen to them, they reluctantly asked Canile for help to find them a suitable, safe home. We now know Alen and Alex as super-friendly and people-oriented. They were very happy to see us in their enclosure and enjoyed the cuddles. It was clear that these two dogs had not experienced anything bad. We hope very much that Alen and Alex will only have to stay at Canile for a short time and will soon have the chance to travel to Germany. There, they should find their forever home with loving people who give them a close family connection. Probably, Alen and Alex carry some Maremmano genes. They therefore need an appropriate home environment. Experience with herding dogs would be good, at least the willingness should be present to inform yourself about this wonderful breed and to implement recommendations for handling them. August 31, 2025: A team colleague and her daughter sacrificed some of their vacation time to personally get to know some of the shelter dogs or to see them again. So, one could find out firsthand how the dogs have developed—especially Alex and Alen.Alex and Alen are open, loving, and friendly. Both enjoyed being stroked and appeared very relaxed and balanced. The moment was particularly funny when Alex climbed into the water bucket with his front paws to cool off—unfortunately, the bucket was much too small for him. Alex is a beautiful Maremmano as described in the book, while Alen with his black, slightly wavy fur draws all the attention. Do you want to give Alex or Alen the chance at a happy home? If you are looking for a new family member and are aware that dogs bring a lot of joy but also a lot of work and responsibility for a hopefully long dog life, we look forward to your message. We place dogs throughout Germany.

About Alen

What life with Alen looks like

Alen is a small young adult dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
