Alexander

British Shorthair Β· Male Β· Adult Β· 10 years

Meet Alexander! Alexander is the gentlest giant you will ever meet! He can be nervous when you first meet him, but it doesn't take long for him to warm up and make friends. This boy loves a lap to curl up on, and will ask for lots of strokes and chin rubs when he has made himself comfortable. He is a bit of a foodie and will definitely encourage any offering of dreamies. Alexander can be easily spooked especially around noise and sudden movement. Due to this, he would be best suited living with a sensible older school aged child who will understand that he will need time and space to settle before he is ready to make friends. He should be fine to settle into a quiet corner of the home with all his resources close by and plenty of places to hide in case he gets scared. Once settled, Alexander will need outside access. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Alexander, you can e-mail our rehoming team on () to register your interest. the cat you have contacted us about.

About Alexander

What life with Alexander looks like

Alexander is an extra-large adult british shorthair cat waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction β€” every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alexander, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alexander?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alexander on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alexander if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Alexander already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alexander isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alexander and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
