Adopt Alfa

Female · Senior · 11 years

Alfa and Bleid's story touched many. Both dogs were taken from their apartment by the police, as they were literally "eaten" by a flea infestation. Bleid was in very bad condition, with all of her skin covered in a hard layer of fleas, while Alfa was slightly better, but with a heavily chewed coat. Now, as you can see, not only Alfa but also Bleid has fully recovered. Initially, the two dogs did not live together, even though they were (and still are) best friends. Each dog had its own owner, who lived next door, so they spent a lot of time together. Shared walks, celebrating New Year together - all this is still visible on the owners' social networks. As far as we can tell, everything changed on the day when the "green dragon" entered both women's lives... The day when Bleid was taken to the shelter after a police call, Alfa was also there, but her owner, in horror at the separation, pulled the dog away. Only the next day, the woman gave in to the police's request. Alfa is 11 years old (she will be 12 this November), a kind and lively spaniel who loves to eat well. She also loves walks. Fortunately, the dog wasn't malnourished; at one point we even thought maybe she was waiting for "Bleid's" return. Now, the dog's chewed coat has completely regrown. We are looking for a loving family for Alfa's golden years, where the dog would be a true friend and companion. She likes to be affectionate and be close to people. Alfa can live in an apartment or a house. Alfa's transformation video is visible by clicking on the icon below.

About Alfa

What life with Alfa looks like

Alfa is a senior dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alfa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
