Alfie

Pointer · Male · Senior · 9 years

At almost 10 years old these two beautiful boys are looking for a bit of a quieter life. They enjoy nothing more than being with their favourite people, enjoying gentle walkies and of course, some tasty treats. These sweet boys are so so sweet and have so much love to give. This dog is being rehomed through our Homestay scheme, staying with their current owner until a new home is found. At the point of adoption, ownership briefly transfers to Dogs Trust and then to the new family. Homestay helps avoid the stress of kennels and allows the dog to remain settled at home. In rare cases, the current owner may withdraw. While we work hard to reduce this risk, it can happen. If it does, Dogs Trust will support potential adopters by prioritising them for another suitable dog. Meet Archie and Alfie, two beautiful brothers who are looking for their forever home together for no fault of their own. The boys are friendly and have been quite happy saying hello to everyone they meet out and about on their walkies. We think they could happily live with upper primary aged children who can understand that they may need to take time for themselves to relax. They're happy to share their walks with other dogs, but would prefer for it to be just the two of them in their forever home. They are mostly housetrained, but might need a little refresher as they settle in. The boys are finding spending long times on their own a little stressful, so it's important any time being left is short and is built up gradually.

About Alfie

What life with Alfie looks like

Alfie is a senior pointer dog waiting at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in Kenilworth.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Kenilworth handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Kenilworth will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alfie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Kenilworth early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
