Alma

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 3 years

Alma is looking for her forever home. The wonderful female dog Alma originally comes from Bulgaria and currently lives on a loving foster home in Germany - and there she simply shows herself to be amazing. Alma walks calmly and reliably on a leash, is housebroken and behaves quietly and pleasantly in the house. She has already accompanied her people many times in daily life and has learned to behave impeccably and to calm down in very different places - whether in the car, in the office, in the restaurant or during visits to friends. For Alma, all of this is no problem. She also masters being alone confidently and without stress. Particularly noteworthy is her affectionate nature: Alma is an incredibly people-oriented female dog who enjoys every form of attention fully. Cuddling and petting are the greatest thing for her, and she quickly forms a close bond with her humans. She also gets along excellently with other dogs and shows herself to be social and friendly. Unfortunately, her life brought a health challenge: Some time ago, Alma showed severe back pain and hardly wanted to move anymore. Upon examination, it turned out that she carries an infection which will gradually stiffen her spine over time. Important to know: This infection is not contagious to humans or other animals. Thanks to well-managed pain medication, Alma has regained her joy of movement and enthusiasm for life - she is now happily and pain-free walking through life and enjoying each day to the fullest. For her further happiness, Alma now wishes for a ground floor home where she can still have a carefree, loving time. Walks at her own pace, lots of closeness to her humans and small highlights like sniffing games, which she loves particularly, make her completely happy. Where are the loving people who would like to give this special dog a home? Alma has so much love to give - and deserves to finally arrive.

DE·Show original

About Alma

What life with Alma looks like

Alma is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
