Adopt Alma

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Gender: Female Size: approx. 60cm, approx. 32kg Alma is a cheerful, open female dog who loves people and other dogs. A gentle giant for people with a big heart. The female dog Manoula was found with her 6 newborn puppies in an inhospitable area near Athens/Greece in early July 2022. Since she had no fear of people and the animal welfare workers also allowed their puppies to approach her, it can be assumed that she was abandoned there. The animal welfare workers took the dog family in and brought them to a private shelter. And so, the request came to us whether we could find a home for the dog mother and her puppies. By now, the puppies are almost three years old, one of them is Alma. Alma is very friendly and playful with other dogs and gentle and affectionate with people. As long as she gets attention, she is happy. Of course, she knows nothing beyond the shelter, but she will quickly get to know everything once she arrives in a family. If you are currently looking for such a rough diamond, have enough time and patience, and also the necessary financial means to adopt a dog, then contact us. Alma could soon discover the world with you! We thank Mr. Andreas B. for taking over the rescue sponsorship. If you are interested, contact us, Alma could soon travel to Germany to her new home. Also check out a video of Alma on YouTube: More dogs are looking for a home... Mia San wants a quiet dog bed for herself. Milly has been waiting so long for her people. Maya wants her own home. Oscar is not only friendly and open to people but also to other dogs.

About Alma

What life with Alma looks like

Alma is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. in Bad Vilbel.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
