Altéa

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 6 years

Identified by microchip Type: European Color: Brown tabby - Coat: short spayed Tested FIV (AIDS) - FELV (Leukemia) negative Vaccinated for Typhus and cat flu Health: All is well at the shelter My name is Altéa, and I am a small, quiet, shy, very gentle kitten. I have never been able to harm anyone. When I arrived at the shelter, I was with my babies. We were all terrified: new places, new smells, unfamiliar noises... everything seemed huge and threatening. Read more... My little ones quickly understood that humans could be kind. They relaxed, learned to play, to be touched, and they quickly found their family. I watched them leave one by one, happy for them, but also a bit lost. I stayed. For me, things were more complicated. It took me a long time to accept that someone could approach without danger. For a long time, I just observed from a distance, ready to run at the slightest sudden movement. The humans here are patient, they let me move at my own pace, never forcing me. Thanks to them, I finally understood that I could stay, that no one wanted to hurt me. Today, I tolerate their presence. I don't hide like before. I watch them, I listen to them, I even let them get a little closer. But I'm not ready for cuddles, or shared purrs. My heart is moving slowly, one step at a time. I still need time to gain this trust that I lack. What I'm looking for now is a very patient, kind, calm family, who will respect my limits and accompany me without rushing me. A family that understands that I may not become a big cuddler right away, but that I can learn, at my own pace, to feel safe. Maybe somewhere, someone is ready to give me this chance. Maybe it will be you, the one who allows me the time to open up, and who will finally offer me a home where I can breathe, relax, and live in peace. Find Altéa on the shelter's Facebook page.

About Altéa

What life with Altéa looks like

Altéa is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus in France.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Altéa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Altéa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Altéa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Altéa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Altéa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Altéa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Altéa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
