Adopt Amigo

Chihuahua · Male · Young · 3 years

Amigo (♂) in 21493 Mühlenrade is looking for a home male dog, neutered Born: February 2023 Size: 25 cm shoulder height Weight: 4.8 kg in foster care since mid-March 2026 Amigo - small but wow! This charming Chihuahua mix has a lot on his mind—in the best possible way! Amigo is a cheerful, open little guy who explores the world with curious eyes and wins over everyone (or rather, wraps everyone around his paw). For 3.5 weeks now, Amigo has been in Germany and lives in his foster home with a small pack of two female dogs and an older male dog—everything goes smoothly. In his new home, he would enjoy having a relaxed canine companion. He is playful, loves action just as much as cuddles, and is really up for any fun. Whether it's a small adventure in the park, a lively game, or simply relaxing together on the sofa—Amigo is always enthusiastic. On the leash, he already walks quite well but still needs some practice and loving, consistent guidance to improve further. He gets along well with known dogs and plays very happily in the pack. With unfamiliar dogs, he sometimes reacts uncertainly and expresses this loudly—he still needs training and security from his people here. A topic that is currently being worked on is being left alone. It is still difficult for Amigo to calm down when his people are not around, and he expresses this through crying—likely due to separation anxiety. Since his arrival, this has improved somewhat, but he still needs further training, patience, and understanding. For this reason, Amigo will not be rehomed to a home where long periods of being left alone are necessary—especially a rental apartment or multi-unit building is less suitable if this cannot be guaranteed. We live in a very rural area; Amigo is not yet familiar with city life. For Amigo, we wish for a loving home with people who bring time and empathy. Children in the new home should already be older and sensible. In short: Amigo brings good cheer on four paws and is looking for his people to accompany and provide him with security on his journey. Whoever looks into his loyal eyes quickly realizes—this little guy is a big one! Despite his size, Amigo wants to be challenged and explore the world on his own four paws. He has no objection to short cuddle sessions in someone's arms, quite the opposite. Who will give Amigo his forever home? Amigo looks forward to your mail under and please fill out the application form online: General Mediation Process | ProDog Romania e.V.

About Amigo

What life with Amigo looks like

Amigo is a large young adult chihuahua dog waiting at Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amigo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amigo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amigo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amigo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amigo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amigo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amigo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
