Amy

Maltese · Female · Senior · 9 years

Maltese Amy - a small heart dog on three paws Amy is a very special Maltese female dog that you just have to close your heart to. The little mouse belongs to the sensitive characters and needs some time and rest at the beginning to gain trust. At the same time, she shows herself absolutely friendly, gentle and defensive at all times. She does not push herself to the forefront, but observes quietly and decides for herself when she is ready to allow closeness. Please do not be fooled by Amy's small handicap: She is missing a paw, at this point she only has a small stumpy leg. But Amy is not impressed at all by this. She copes wonderfully with it, runs completely problem-free and with joy through life. Her missing paw does not stop her from exploring her environment and enjoying life. Once Amy has gained trust, her wonderful character comes to light. With people whose aura she likes, she thaws surprisingly quickly. Then it can even happen that she climbs onto the lap all by herself after a short time to pick up her cuddles. Whoever gives her the necessary time and wins her trust, may get to know a very special and affectionate little female dog. Amy also shows herself as an extremely uncomplicated and pleasant companion in everyday life on her foster home. She has not barked once so far and is an extremely quiet and unobtrusive roommate. She is already completely house-trained, drives problem-free in the car and sleeps peacefully at night. She gets along well with other dogs and can stay alone for hours on the foster home in the company of a fellow dog. Amy does not need a turbulent life and no athletic peak performances. She enjoys leisurely walks, a quiet home and above all a lot of closeness and security. Therefore, we can imagine Amy very well with seniors or people who lead a rather quiet everyday life and wish for a gentle, uncomplicated companion. A home with as few stairs as possible or an elevator would be ideal because of her missing paw. A dear first dog is allowed to be present, but it is not a must. With enough attention and time, Amy can also be happy as a single dog. We wish for Amy people who give her the time she needs to gain trust and who appreciate her quiet and sensitive nature. Whoever wins Amy's heart gets a very special little female dog with her gentle nature, her joie de vivre and her special character. Amy is looking for people who do not see her missing paw, but all that she brings with her: a big heart, a lot of love and a wonderful soul.

About Amy

What life with Amy looks like

Amy is a large senior maltese dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
