Amy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

This is how she describes her previous home: She is a sensitive soul who enjoys being loved by the people around her and likes to relax with us on the couch in the evenings. Toward strangers she is usually quick to warm up, and after a few treats at the latest she becomes a new best friend. Amy has been with us since she was five months old. Before that she was a street dog, which is why she is somewhat food-motivated; despite many attempts, we were unable to train this out of her. Loud noises and tight spaces sometimes make her a bit anxious, but with good reassurance and calm, she quickly regains trust. Amy likes water, as long as it doesn't come from a shower head. She loves cuddling, loves being scratched on the belly, and enjoys playing with sticks immensely. She prefers walks in the forest or on the fields, but she is also content when a day is calmer. Amy is rather unsuited to the city. She attends dog school, and we have passed BH, IBGH 1, OB Beginner and OB 1, all with distinction. Scent work and dummy training also suit her well. She follows basic commands, and as a rule she is recallable; she also walks very well alongside a pram. Due to the arrival of a new family member, we unfortunately have to give Amy up. Since the birth, or rather since our now 15-month-old son began crawling and walking, she no longer feels comfortable at home. She has become more fearful and nervous, and she has already bared her teeth at the child. Sometimes she also acts against us adults when she feels very uncomfortable. Toward other dogs Amy is usually very social, but at times she shows signs of aggression. This happens unpredictably, whether she has known the other dog from an early age or whether the dog is new to her. Unfortunately, there have already been two or three incidents in which she bit other dogs.

DE·Show original

About Amy

What life with Amy looks like

Amy is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierzuflucht in Austria.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierzuflucht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierzuflucht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Amy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierzuflucht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
