André

Chihuahua · Male · Young · 2 years

Slimmerik is ready for a new adventure! This funny little fellow is named André and he is almost 3 years old. His owner could no longer take care of him and has entrusted his care to us. André had to get used to things a bit in the first few days, but now he always eagerly awaits us. Sometimes he can be a bit timid towards new people. With a little treat and a calm approach, the ice is broken rather quickly. André enjoys going for walks and finds it delightful to play on the agility field. He is a true Terrier and is good at guarding. He uses his snout very well. André is smart and wants to learn things. He needs both physical and mental challenges. That is why we place him with people who can give him this. Placing him with another dog is certainly an option, but he does not know other animals. Young children find him exciting, so he is not placed with them. Do you want to give our cool guy a life where he can go on adventures? Contact us then and mention your experience with dogs and a detailed description of your (living/working) situation. André participates in the training program of Dutch Cell Dogs. Therefore, he cannot be placed yet, but meetings are possible earlier. Affectionate and eager to learn, and brave when needed. A loving girl wants to be with you.

About André

What life with André looks like

André is a large young adult chihuahua dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting André, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about André?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw André on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt André if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is André already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if André isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know André and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
