Adopt Andy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Husky Andy was caught in Santandrei near Oradea/Romania. He belonged to a Roma family who did not care for him and always let him run free. Since he was hungry, he often stayed around a school where children fed him. However, the parents were not pleased with this and complained. Therefore, he had to be moved. He was just skin and bones, suffering from bloody diarrhea due to Giardia. And he was neither neutered nor microchipped. At our shelter, where he was taken in, he received medical and mental treatment and was rehabilitated. He is now free of Giardia and gaining weight. Unfortunately, the friendly Husky Andy also had bad luck at our shelter; he was severely bitten. These wounds have now healed. He is waiting for a nice suitable home. And here ITV Grenzenlos wants to help him. As a Husky, Andy is very active. Since he is a very friendly and open male dog who gets along well with other dogs, we would like to rehome him with Husky lovers. Andy is lovely and gentle; he needs to be kept busy and requires action. Active people with dog sense and experience would have a lot of fun with him. He still pulls on the leash and has not been trained yet. But attending dog training classes would help teach him manners. He is not familiar with life in a house and still has much to learn. He needs good upbringing and orientation. He has a lot of energy and strength that needs to be managed. Overall, he is a very sweet and good boy who will become a loyal companion with patience and proper training. In our shelter, he has been medically prepared, fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and treated against parasites. He was born around August 2021 and is about 55 cm tall. He has been at the animal shelter since May 2025. It would be wonderful if he could get help and have good chances for a nice life that matches his temperament. About Andy

What life with Andy looks like

Andy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ITV Grenzenlos e.V. in Essel.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Andy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Andy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ITV Grenzenlos e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Andy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Andy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ITV Grenzenlos e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Andy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Andy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ITV Grenzenlos e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Andy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
