Adopt Angie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 10 months

For an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families with (young) children. Behavior at home: Angie likes to be near you but is not "clingy". She can lie calmly in her bed to watch everything. She enjoys being cuddled, but can also be a bit hesitant or uncertain; especially as long as she doesn't know you very well. When she is well-rested, she has a lot of energy and likes to play, both alone and with her foster mother or with the other dog in the foster family. Angie watches what the other dog does and often follows that example. Together with the other dog, she can be alone at home for a good while; without the other dog, she can't do that yet. Visitors find her exciting, so she keeps her distance and may bark. If the visitors sit quietly and don't make contact, she calms down and can come sniff around. Guidance from her foster mother and in the future from her adopter(s) is important here. Naturally, our team is happy to give advice on what you can do in such situations, so that receiving visitors becomes more relaxed. Too much noise inside and around the house is not something that makes Angie happy; therefore, we are looking for a household with one or two people and little traffic. Because of the quiet she (for now) needs, the dynamics of a family with younger children are not suitable for her. Angie is toilet trained in her garden and puppy pad. She is not a chewer, but naturally, with a young dog in the house, it's always wise to keep your valuable belongings out of reach. 😊 Behavior outside: Walking in nature is lovely for Angie; putting on the harness before the walk is still exciting for her. Patience, time and practice make perfect! Towards unknown dogs, Angie is mainly curious and social. She has already made nice steps in her self-confidence in this regard. Unknown people find her exciting, especially up close, multiple people and/or in a busier environment such as in the city. With good guidance and above all not forcing anything, we are convinced she will take many more nice steps in this area. Riding in the car goes well. On longer trips, she sometimes feels a bit sick, which shows itself in excessive drooling. Background: This smart girl was found in the forest in Romania, together with a lot of other pups and one nursing female. We are fairly certain that this group of pups consists of several litters, so unfortunately we cannot be certain whether the nursing female is Angie's mother. As the last of the 10 pups she was found with, Angie and her brother Brad were allowed to travel to the Netherlands on December 19th. The pups and the female have all found shelter in Elisa's animal shelter (Romania), with which we work closely. There we got to know Angie, during our visit to the animal shelter in October. The photos and videos further down on this page give a good picture of our meeting with Angie at the animal shelter.

About Angie

What life with Angie looks like

Angie is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Angie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Angie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Angie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Angie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Angie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Angie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Angie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
