Adopt Anton

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 12 years

Anton Breed: German Shepherd Size: approx. 60 cm Age: born ca. 2012-2014 Weight: approx. 30Kg neutered: other dogs? yes children? does not know cats? must be tested Mediterranean coast? treated for Ehrlichiosis Shelter (R) Anton seeks his place of mercy ❤️ Anton is an approximately 12–14 year old German Shepherd whose life should turn for the better once more. His owner gave him up at the large animal shelter on Rhodes. Despite everything, Anton has preserved his friendly and affectionate nature. Anton is a quiet, agreeable, and particularly affectionate dog who enjoys the company of humans. He was successfully treated for Ehrlichiosis, and his current blood values are reassuringly unremarkable. Due to his age, he has lost some muscle mass and receives supportive medications for his joints. For Anton, we wish for an apartment with a ground-floor room and a securely fenced garden where he can move freely and enjoy the sun. Large walks are no longer an option for him, but a gentle muscle-building program should be pursued to keep him mobile for as long as possible. For Anton, an adoption fee is reduced. Who gives this wonderful senior the chance to have a warm dog bed, care, and love for his last years? Before the journey to his new home, X-rays can be taken at the owner's request, for a fee, to ensure that all his joints are in order. The fee is determined by the number of X-rays.

Anton Rasse: Deutscher Schäferhund Alter: geb. ca. 2012-2014 Größe: ca. 60 cm Gewicht: ca. 30Kg Kastriert: andere Hunde?

About Anton

What life with Anton looks like

Anton is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Step by Paw e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Anton, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Anton?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Step by Paw e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Anton on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Anton if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Step by Paw e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Anton already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Anton isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Step by Paw e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Anton and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
