Adopt Apollo

Dogo Argentino · Male · Adult · 5 years

Breed: Dogo Argentino x Bulldogge Color: White-Brown Age: April 20, 2021 Gender: male Neutered: yes Reason for surrender: overburdened Characteristics: Apollo is a very playful companion who always brings a smile to your face. He loves to thoroughly examine and dismantle stuffed animals, sometimes even doing this with his beds. He loves his food more than anything, he can never get enough of it, whether it's treats, chews, or his daily food. He doesn't always find walks so great. Sometimes he loves them and on another day, he'd rather snuggle into his warm blankets. He has it in his head that "training" is overrated from his perspective. However, it's important to teach him the basics of dog ABCs so he can get along well in everyday life. Unfortunately, Apollo has health issues; his movement apparatus sometimes doesn't work as he would like. Sometimes his legs are faster than his head, and he also needs to learn how to lift his paws better to move and not shuffle. Additionally, he suffers from food allergies. Apollo can be quite clumsy, and if you're in the way, he might knock you out of the way with a swing. That's why he shouldn't live with children and frail people. He also doesn't get along well with cats. Other dogs find him interesting on walks and he likes to observe them from a safe distance. As a young puppy, Apollo has a few times gotten into trouble and occupied himself. Unfortunately, there were also incidents with children. That's why he has been with us since October 2023. What dog owners are we looking for for Apollo: In the new home, there must be no children or other pets. One needs a lot of patience, time, and understanding for the young puppy. The new owners should be interested in dog training classes that are based on positive reinforcement. Understanding and willingness to work with a muzzle are required. We are looking for a home with a terrace or garden, ground-floor without many stairs for Apollo. We would be happy if you could clarify this beforehand. Would you like to meet Apollo and give him a home? You are welcome to call us. Country of origin (where the dog is currently located): Switzerland Breeding country: Germany Contact address: animal shelter Paradise, Kernserstrasse 68, 6372 Ennetmoos Monday to Friday: 9-11 AM and 3-4 PM/ Saturday: 3-4 PM. This is a young, adolescent dog.

Rasse: Dogo Argentino x Bulldogge Farbe: Weiss-Braun Alter: 20. About Apollo

What life with Apollo looks like

Apollo is a medium-sized adult dogo argentino dog waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
