Lola

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 8 years

Lola is a very loving, people-oriented 7-year-old who sometimes still likes to show her inner puppy. She was rescued in Sierra Leone but has lived in Switzerland for 5 years. Although she doesn't belong to a specific breed, she has some American Staffordshire Terrier-like features, weighs around 35 kg, and is in good health. She builds very strong bonds with the people she knows and enjoys being part of their daily lives. She loves training and interactive games and knows a variety of commands: sit, stay, come, spin (with hand signals), high five, back up, slalom, and onto your bed. Additionally, she loves tug-of-war, puzzle ball feeders, tennis balls, and finds great joy in finding ways to destroy indestructible toys 😊 (although she doesn’t try to destroy things that don’t belong to her, like pillows, shoes, etc.). She loves being around people and behaves calmly towards familiar persons (after the usual initial excitement after a long absence), even towards small children. In the presence of new people, especially in larger groups, she is very excited, so caution is advised when it comes to children she doesn’t know or adults with no experience with dogs. Although this doesn’t usually happen, she can jump high when overly excited, but calms down quickly when handled calmly. Walks are a highlight, especially in the forest, where she loves to go on adventures and sniff around. She loves to swim (but is not convinced when the water is too cold) and plays happily in the snow. For her age, she has a lot of energy. In interactions with other dogs, she can be unpredictable – sometimes friendly, sometimes nervous, and occasionally reactive (especially towards small dogs that rush at her or nip at her) – so a confident and experienced dog handler is beneficial. If the opportunity arises, she would try to chase cats or other animals. She can signal well when she needs to go to the garden, sleeps through the night, and can be left alone for long periods, except during thunderstorms or fireworks, when she needs to be nearby and soothed. She is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. We are searching for a loving home for Lola, as we must move to the UK for family reasons, and the risk of her being euthanized (due to UK legislation) is too high for us to take her with us. We are heartbroken to have to give her up, but she is loved by everyone who meets her, and we hope that there is another home where she can have a wonderful future.

DE·Show original

About Lola

What life with Lola looks like

Lola is a adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Wotans Tierhilfe in Wotans.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lola, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lola?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wotans Tierhilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lola on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lola if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wotans Tierhilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lola already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lola isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wotans Tierhilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lola and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
